Ontario is reporting there are 202 COVID patients in ICUs, including 91 patients on ventilators.
The province also reported two more COVID-related deaths that occurred within the last month.
According to the latest update, there have been 206 COVID deaths in the last 30 days, with between five and 16 deaths each day.
Over the course of the pandemic, the province has reported 12,632 deaths that were either caused by COVID, COVID was a contributing factor to the death, or the cause of death was unknown or missing.
The daily update included 2,219 lab-confirmed COVID cases for the April 18 report and 2,450 for the April 17 report. Both were published today because of the Easter holiday.
Case counts are assumed to be underestimated because not everyone is eligible to receive PCR testing and only PCR results are included in the daily case counts.
Since the start of the pandemic, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,222,243 cases of COVID-19 and reported 1,174,111 cases recovered or resolved.
The April 18 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
Hospitalizations
- 1,301 COVID-positive patients in hospitals, up from 1,130 reported Saturday.
- 202 people are in ICU because of COVID-related critical illness, which is up from 153 reported Saturday. Of those, 29 no longer test positive for COVID-19.
- There are 91 patients on ventilators because of COVID-related critical illness, up from 80 reported Saturday.
- Hospitalization totals are incomplete today because more than 10 per cent of the province's hospitals did not report to the bed census.
- The vaccination status of hospitalized COVID patients is not updated on Mondays.
Vaccination
- About 86 per cent of the population over four years old in Ontario is fully vaccinated (about 12.1 million people)
- More than 7.2 million people in Ontario have had three doses of a COVID vaccine.
- 10 per cent of the eligible population (aged 5 and up) is unvaccinated
Testing
- Ontario labs processed 10,060 tests for the latest report, resulting in an 18.7 per cent positivity.
Northern Ontario
In the north, there are 124 hospitalizations, up from 118 yesterday, according to provincial data. There are 17 people in ICU with the virus, which is the same as yesterday, and 3 people on ventilators, up from 2 yesterday.
Not all health units update their websites over the weekend and the data for Northern Ontario is not up-to-date yet.
