Ontario reports 848 new COVID cases Friday

The latest update includes 770 recoveries and five new deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 848 new COVID cases today for Sept. 9. 

The latest updates noted 770 recoveries and five new deaths. There were six deaths that occurred more than one month ago also reported today. 

The Sept. 10 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 534 of today's cases were unvaccinated people, 76 were partially vaccinated, and 189 were fully vaccinated. The remaining 49 cases were people with unknown vaccine status (missing health card information).
  • 6,123 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 6,056 yesterday. 
  • 361 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario. 
  • Included in the hospitalized cases not in the ICU are 155 unvaccinated people, 16 partially vaccinated people, and 30 fully vaccinated people. 
  • There are 153 COVID-positive patients in intensive care, plus another 24 patients who no longer test positive for COVID-19. 
  • Included in the ICU cases are 109 unvaccinated people, nine partially vaccinated people, and 14 fully vaccinated people. 
  • 97 COVID patients are on ventilators and another 16 patients on ventilators no longer test positive for COVID-19.
  • 10,128,949 Ontarians (about 68 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 840,227 (six per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. Approximately 26 per cent of the population (including children) is unvaccinated.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 11.17 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 8 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.6 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people. 
  • The province reported 28,247 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 3.1 per cent positivity rate.
  • Provincial labs have processed 17.4 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 166 are from Toronto, 117 are from Peel, 27 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 77 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 127 individuals under 12 years old, 90 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 353 people between 20 and 39 years old, 178 people between 40 and 59 years old, 83 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 17 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 572,978 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 557,265 recoveries and 9,590 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,888.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 34.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 0.6 per cent from the week beginning Aug. 25.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 444 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There are 15 known active cases.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 709 cases, weekly rate of 22.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 711 cases. There are 25 known active cases.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,184 cases, weekly rate of 17.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,186 cases. There are 12 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,301 cases, weekly rate of 9.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,321 cases. There are 36 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 209 cases, weekly rate of 3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 210 cases. There are no known active cases.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,130 cases, weekly rate of 12.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,129 cases. There are eight known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,381 cases, weekly rate of 6.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,382 cases. There are 14 known active cases.
