With Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) basketball on the horizon, the city girls high school basketball league crowned champions at both the junior and senior levels on Friday night.
The Korah Colts picked up a narrow 37-30 win over the St. Mary’s Knights Friday at Superior Heights to capture the senior title.
The loss was the first of the season for the Knights after going 9-0 in regular season play before advancing with a semi-final win.
Lucy Lafrance paced the Colts with 13 points in the win, while Delaney Elliot added eight points in the victory.
Keira Kent and Ella Zachary had 13 points each for the Knights.
In Friday’s junior final, the Knights cruised to a 32-13 win over Korah.
Kylah Viotto led the Knights with 16 points, while Sienna Magli added nine in the win.
Lila Jarrett led Korah with four points.
All four teams will compete in the NOSSA AA/AAA Championship next weekend locally.
St. Mary’s advanced to the junior final thanks to a 32-6 win over White Pines earlier in the week. Viotto had 10 points to lead the Knights.
Korah advanced thanks to a 35-13 win over Superior Heights. Emily Bateman had 13 points in the semi-final win or Korah.
Semi-final action at the senior level saw St. Mary’s beat White Pines 65-14. Zachary had 15 points for the Knights.
Meanwhile, Korah picked up a 39-30 win over Superior Heights in the other senior semi-final. Ava Engel paced the Colts with 16 points.
