With hopes of reaching the National Hockey League, Soo Greyhounds defenceman Andrew Gibson won't have to change jersey colours at the next level.
Coming off his first full season with the Greyhounds, Gibson was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft on Thursday morning.
The Red Wings selected Gibson with their second pick of the round (42nd overall).
Gibson finished the 2022-23 season with seven goals and 21 points in 45 games with the Greyhounds.
An injury suffered against the North Bay Battalion forced Gibson to miss 23 games before he returned for the final seven games of the season.
The 6'3", 198-pound defenceman also competed with Team Canada at the U18 world championship in the spring, winning a bronze medal.
