Soo Greyhounds defencemen Ryan O’Rourke and Jack Thompson were part of the Canadian entry that won gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship this weekend.
The pair was in the lineup Saturday night as Team Canada beat Team Finland 3-2 in overtime at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
After Finland erased a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals six minutes apart in the third period, Kent Johnson scored 3:20 into overtime to give Team Canada the win.
Thompson played just under 14 minutes for Team Canada in the win, averaging just under 17 minutes of ice time in Canada’s seven games, adding a goal and three assists offensively.
O’Rourke also suited up in all seven games for Team Canada, picking up an assist and averaging just under eight minutes of ice time a game.
