The Memorial Cup isn't expected to be awarded until June 2021, but the Canadian Hockey League plans to award the prestigious trophy virtually well before then.

On Thursday, the CHL announced the Memorial eCup, which will open on Nov. 28.

The CHL will be holding a 64-team eSports tournament that will feature each of its 60 member teams along with four hockey personalities to round out the field to compete for the title in NHL21.

The 60 CHL teams will be controlled by a player from that team.

Locally, the Soo Greyhounds will feature forward Rory Kerins at the controls.

All matches will be streamed online on Facebook live and Twitch.

The tournament will be a single elimination with semi-final and final round action that will see teams go head-to-head in a best-of-3 series.

The tournament will run from Nov. 28 to Dec. 17.

The full list of players competing for each CHL team in the tournament can be found here

Further details, including brackets and the guest participants, will be announced at a later date.
