The second of two Grand Slam of Curling events being held in the Calgary curling bubble is underway for Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre locally.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, opened the six-day Players’ Championship on Tuesday with an 8-6 win over Jason Gunnlaugson of Winnipeg in the opening draw of the event.

Trailing 6-5 late, Jacobs scored three in the final end to pick up the victory.

Jacobs took an early lead over Gunnlaugson by stealing a pair in the opening end.

With Jacobs leading 3-1 after the teams traded singles in the second and third end, Gunnlaugson tied the game at three with a pair in the fourth end before stealing one in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.

The teams proceeded to trade the lead in the following two ends as Jacobs scored a pair in the sixth before Gunnlaugson scored two of his own in the seventh to take the lead into the final end.

Jacobs returns to action with a pair of games on Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m. (Sault time) against Peter De Cruz before wrapping up day two against Bruce Mouat in the evening draw at 10 p.m.

Round robin action will continue for the Jacobs rink on Thursday at 2 p.m. against Niklas Edin before the team wraps up the round robin on Friday against Brendan Bottcher, also at 2 p.m.
