Knights capture city high school hockey title

The St. Mary’s Knights won the city high school hockey title on Monday.

The Knights captured game three of the city final, beating the Korah Colts 4-2 to win the series in three games.

Daniel Bumbaco scored the game-winner for the Knights midway through the third period and had two points in the win.

Nick Kelly, Christian Omollo, and Nik Vecchio had the other goals for the Knights.

Luca Spadafora assisted on a pair of goals for St. Mary’s.

Tyson Culina and Ronan Provenzano scored for the Colts in the loss.

The Knights dropped the opening game in the series by a 5-4 score in overtime before winning game two by an 8-3 score.

Bumbaco had four goals in the game two win for St. Mary’s and was named the recipient of the Art Jarratt Memorial Trophy, which goes to the playoff most valuable player, following Monday’s game.

In game one, shootout goals by Kaylob Thibodeau were the difference for the Colts.

Thibodeau, who had a goal in regulation time in the game as well, scored on a pair of chances in the shootout.

Provenzano had two goals in regulation time for the Colts while Nathan Keranen assisted on a pair of goals in the opening-game win.

Bumbaco scored twice for the Knights in the series opener.
