It was tight throughout and fitting that it came down to the late stages of regulation time to decide it.
The St. Mary’s Knights overcame a six-point deficit through one quarter and beat the Korah Colts 52-47 on Monday night at St. Mary’s to win the senior boy’s high school basketball title.
In a game that saw the Knights lead by three at halftime and hold an eight-point lead heading into the final quarter, the Colts, who finished in top spot in the regular season, kept the game close but couldn’t claw all the way back.
Jaidan Trudeau led St. Mary’s with 13 points in the win, which included seven points in the third quarter as the Knights looked to give themselves some breathing room after taking the lead.
Daniel Bumbaco and Christopher Viotto chipped in with nine points each for the Knights while Nick Carter added eight.
Korah’s Konnor Ritchie led all scorers in the game with 16 points. Mike Nicoletta added 13 points for the Colts.
St. Mary’s advanced to Monday’s championship game thanks to a semifinal victory over Superior Heights while the Colts beat White Pines in the other senior semi.
In Monday’s junior final, St. Mary’s beat White Pines 42-34.
Nate Carter led the way for the Knights with 21 points.
Matti Tucker added eight points for St. Mary’s.
Nick Louttit led White Pines with 13 points while Garrin Pine added seven points.
