A local golfer will not be crowned city champion this year.

“Due to lack of interest,” organizers of the Sault’s annual golf championship had no choice but to cancel this weekend’s planned event.

Originally scheduled to be played over two days — one round at the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club, the other at Crimson Ridge — the tournament was called off yesterday because not enough players signed up.

“Unfortunately the event has been cancelled due to lack of interest!” reads a Facebook post from the Sault Golf Club. “Sorry.”

A separate post on the tournament’s Facebook page confirms the news.

“Unfortunately due to lack of registrations the city championship run is coming to an end and the event this weekend has been cancelled,” it reads.
