They wanted to end regular season action on a high and, even in what turned into a shortened game, the Sault Sabercats did just that on Saturday.

With an unbeaten record in tow, the Sabercats cruised to a 34-0 win over the Clarington Knights Saturday in Ontario Summer Football League action at Superior Heights.

The Sabercats opened up a 24-0 lead through one quarter en route to the win in a game that saw Clarington concede at halftime with the Saults up big.

The Sabercats struck early as quarterback Matti Tucker ran the ball in from 10 yards out. Ty Koski hit the extra point to make it a 7-0 game.

Ronan Provenzano made it a two-score game thanks to a 21-yard touchdown run. Koski added the convert on the play.

Provenzano picked up his second major of the opening quarter when he scored on a three-yard run. With the convert by Koski, the Sabercats took a 21-0 lead.

Koski made it a 24-0 game with a 21-yard field goal late in the first quarter.

The Sabercats extended the lead to 27-0 in the second quarter, first on a rouge before Clarington conceded a safety.

Matthew Malcolm capped off the Sabercats scoring by catching a touchdown pass from Tucker later in the second quarter.

The win caps off a perfect 6-0 regular season for the Sabercats, who will enter OSFL U18 playoff action as the East Division’s top seed.

Defensively for the Sabercats, Nikolas Vecchio had three tackles.

Landen Trecartin recovered a pair of onside kicks for the Sabercats.

Jalen Connell had 4.5 tackles and an interception for the Knights defensively while Colby Dowdle also had 4.5 tackles.

The OSFL regular season wraps up next weekend with the Sabercats hosting their playoff opener on July 22.

The junior varsity Sabercats were off this weekend after a forfeit win over the Orangeville Outlaws.
