An opportunity to represent Northern Ontario at the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge, Alta. in March will be on the line when Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre locally returns to the ice on Sunday morning.

The Jacobs rink wrapped up round robin action at the Northern Ontario Curling Association playdowns locally on Saturday with a win and a loss.

As a result, the Jacobs rink finished the round robin with a 4-1 record and second place in the six-team tournament.

Jacobs will face Sandy MacEwan Curl Sudbury in Sunday’s final.

It will be the second meeting in as many days between the two teams after MacEwan beat Jacobs 9-5 in the final draw of the round robin on Saturday afternoon.

After the teams traded deuces in the opening two ends, MacEwan took the lead with a single in the third before stealing one in each of the subsequent two ends to extend the lead to 5-2.

Jacobs cut the lead to 5-4 with a pair in the sixth end.

After trading singles in the seventh and eighth ends, MacEwan sealed the win with three in the ninth.

Jacobs moved to 4-0 earlier in the day with an 8-3 win over Chris Glibota, also of the Community First Curling Centre.

The Jacobs rink took the lead early with a single in the opening end before a steal of one in the second end.

After Glibota got on the board with a single in the third end, Jacobs blanked the fourth end before scoring a pair in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

Glibota cut the Jacobs lead to 4-2 with a single in the sixth, but Jacobs would add another pair in the seventh and sealed the win with two more in the ninth end after Glibota scored one in the eighth.

Sunday’s final between Jacobs and MacEwan begins at 10 a.m. at the Community First Curling Centre.
