After splitting a pair of games on Sunday at the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier, Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre representing Northern Ontario rebounded for a win on Monday afternoon.
Team Jacobs picked up three steals in a 6-1 win in eight ends over Quebec’s Mike Fournier Monday at the 10-day, 18-team event being held at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alta.
With the win, the Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, lead Ryan Harnden, and alternate Jordan Chandler, improves to 3-1 following
“It was a good bounce-back game for us,” Kennedy said in an interview with Curling Canada. “We got our butts handed to us last night in those middle ends. We had a really good first few ends (against Quebec) and got the hammer, which was nice. We played pretty solid. We did get a few misses early, which helped, and we found our rhythm in the second half.”
After scoring one with the hammer in the opening end, Jacobs opened up a 3-0 lead with steals of one each in the second and third ends.
After the Fournier rink blanked the fourth end, Jacobs extended the lead with a steal of one more in the fifth end.
Fournier got on the board with a single in the sixth end.
After blanking the seventh end, Jacobs sealed the win in the eighth end with a draw for a pair.
Next up for Jacobs is a pair of games on Tuesday.
Team Jacobs will face Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories in the morning draw at 10:30 a.m. local time before facing Peter Mackey of Nunavut in the evening draw at 8:30 p.m. local time.
The Brier field is split into two pools of nine teams each.
The top three teams will advance to the expanded playoff format, which begins on Friday after seven days of round robin action.
The second- and third-place teams in each pool will meet in a page playoff qualifier with the winners of those games facing the top seeded teams from each pool.
The page playoff games are set for March 12 with semifinal and final action set for the following day.
