After a pair of tough games in Hearst, the Soo Thunderbirds salvaged their three-game Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League road trip on Saturday night.
The scored three times in the final 20 minutes en route to a 4-0 win over the Cochrane Crunch at the Tim Horton Event Centre in Cochrane.
The Thunderbirds opened the scoring 7:32 into the game when Anton Petrovskiy picked up his first goal of the season.
Shortly after a Thunderbirds power play ended, Petrovskiy deflected a shot by James Kearney from the left point past Cochrane goaltender Jake Dubinsky.
After a scoreless second period, the Thunderbirds broke the game open with three goals in just over eight minutes in the third period.
Ethan Raduy made it 2-0 Thunderbirds 1:11 into the third when he slid a backhand in tight past Dubinsky off a faceoff win to the left of the Cochrane net.
Just 3:24 later, Michael Chaffay made it 3-0 Thunderbirds when his shot from the slot was stopped initially by Dubinsky before deflecting past the Crunch goalie on the rebound.
Ryan Blackburn capped off the scoring when he took a pass in the slot from Kaden Dundas and beat Dubinsky at 9:35.
Kearney finished the night with a pair of assists for the Thunderbirds in the win while Zachary Reddy picked up the shutout, stopping 24 shots.
Dubinsky made 53 saves for Cochrane in the loss.
The Thunderbirds return to action on the road on Oct. 1 when the team travels to Sudbury to take on the Greater Sudbury Cubs.
