The Soo Thunderbirds have gone local with a pair of signings ahead of the 2021-22 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season.
The Thunderbirds have signed a pair of members of the Great North Under-18 League’s Soo Jr. Greyhounds in defencemen Kolby Fellinger and Creo Solomon.
Fellinger, a 17-year-old, is coming off two seasons with the Jr. Greyhounds.
“Kolby is an excellent teammate and is a team first guy. He played great over the past two seasons and became a reliable player,” said Thunderbirds general manager Jamie Henderson, who coached both players with the Jr. Greyhounds, in a prepared statement.
Solomon, 17, is coming off his first season with the Jr. Greyhounds after spending the previous season with the North Bay Trappers minor midget team.
“Creo is a physical defenceman who will make life difficult for opponents, especially as he grows more comfortable during the season,” Henderson said. “Creo worked really hard this past season on his footwork and his offensive contributions which will serve him well going forward. He’s also a character guy who will fit in with a great group.”
The signings come on the heels of the team adding two other Jr. Greyhounds players late last week in defenceman Michael Beltrano and forward Samuel Lake.
It also continues a busy stretch for the team that saw the NOJHL club sign defenceman Kyle Trottier and forward Kelsey Ouellet of the Great North League’s Kapuskasing Flyers and deal defenceman Cameron Dutkiewicz to the Timmins Rock.
