Hockey fans in Sault Ste. Marie will have the opportunity to skate with former NHL greats in the city’s first annual Celebrity Hockey Classic in support of Easter Seals Ontario set to take place Friday, Oct. 13.

Organizers have announced that former Toronto Maple Leaf Wendel Clark is confirmed to attend.

The tournament kicks off the evening of Thursday, Oct. 12 with a Draft Dinner, where each team will select an NHL star to play on their team.

Draft positions will be determined by the total dollars raised by each team. After an evening spent getting to know their celebrity teammate, teams will hit the ice on Friday at the Northern Community Centre, Easter Seals Ontario said in a news release.

Each team is guaranteed a minimum two games with VIP treatment before and after each game.

An all-star game will occur at lunch with the top individual fundraisers from each team taking on the Celebrity All-Star Team.

Each player must raise a minimum of $400 in order to qualify to play in the tournament.

Funds raised through this event will go towards helping Ontario kids with physical disabilities, empowering them to live with greater independence, freedom, and dignity in their daily lives.

Other Celebrity Hockey Classic tournaments are taking place this year in Thunder Bay, Windsor, York-Simcoe, Sudbury, Grey Bruce, North York, Collingwood, Oakville and Waterloo.
