A single point separates the Soo North Stars from first place in the Great North Midget Hockey League.

The Soo Junior Greyhounds extended their league-high winning streak to 14 games Sunday night at Memorial Gardens with a 6-4 victory over the defending NOJHL champion Rayside Balfour Sabrecats.

SAGINAW -- The Greyhounds halted a four-game losing streak before 4,200 onlookers in enemy territory here Sunday.

The Soo Jr. Greyhounds continued their solid play Saturday night at Memorial Gardens with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Sudbury Northern Wolves.

It was a packed gym at Sault College on Friday night and the homecourt Cougars responded with an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association split with the Niagara Knights. The first-year Cougar women dropped a 78-28 decision to veteran-laden Niagara.

PLYMOUTH -- Another day, another loss. Make that four losses in a row for the Soo Greyhounds, who dropped a tough 5-4 decision to the Plymouth Whalers in the Michigan city on Friday night.

LONDON -- It was a classic goaltenders' duel here Thursday at the John Labatt Centre with Chris Houle of the London Knights playing just a bit better than Adam Munro of the Soo Greyhounds.

Sault Ste. Marie native Julia Colizza has signed a letter-of-intent to play Division 1 U.S.A. women's hockey at Mercyhurst College next fall, SooToday.com has learned. The 17-year old Colizza will attend Mercyhurst on a full-ride hockey scholarship.

The Alpena Lumberjacks paid a visit to the Sault College gym on Wednesday and left with men's and women's basketball wins over the Cougars. It was non-conference action and the Alpena women began the night with a 60-29 win over Sault College.

The Algoma Basketball Association plans to introduce a women's league that will begin play in early December. Officials are looking at a four-team league with games being played Fridays at 5 and 6 p.m. at the Sault College gym.
