SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jonathan Cheechoo has retired from hockey after playing seven NHL seasons and finishing with four years in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. Cheechoo announced his retirement through the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

BOSTON — The Bruins say rookie defenceman Charlie McAvoy is out for at least a month with a sprained left MCL. General manager Don Sweeney said on Tuesday that McAvoy will be evaluated in four weeks.

NEW YORK — Taylor Hall and the New Jersey Devils will face off against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers to open the regular season in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Oct. 6 as part of the NHL's Global Series.

EDMONTON — Several lengthy goalless droughts came to an end in Edmonton on Monday. Oscar Klefbom's first goal in 34 games came in overtime as the Edmonton Oilers earned a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. It was Klefbom's first goal since Dec. 9.
