WEEKEND DRUG BUST City Police were kept busy this weekend. Police stopped a 1989 Chev Cavalier on Highway 17 North. The vehicle was stopped and subsequently searched. Located in the vehicle was 8.

DANGEROUS FUGITIVE ARRESTED Yesterday at 9:17 p.m., Robert George Poole, age 47, was arrested without incident by members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. He was arrested at 130 Albert Street West where it is believed he had been staying.

4x4 Stolen. City Police are investigating the theft of a red 1998 BIG BEAR 4X4 Yamaha 4 wheeler. It was take from the 500 block of Walls Rd. in Prince Township. It is believed the 4wheeler was taken sometime between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

MAN ASSAULTED - DIES OF INJURIES The victim in last night's homicide on Connaught Avenue was Paul Christopher Rainone, 43 of 206 Breton Road, City police told a news conference today.

MAN ASSAULTS EX-GIRLFRIEND On the afternoon of July 13, the accused, a 44-year-old male was at a residence in the city's west end, where the victim, his ex-girlfriend lived.

FUGITIVE APPREHENDED A police standoff that lasted more than four hours outside a Shafer Avenue home last evening ended with the capture of Paul Jeffrey Whalen by heavily armed police.

ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO GAIN ENTRY TO HOME Yesterday at approximately 5:50 am, Donald Larente, age 20 of 21 Salisbury Avenue went to a home in the 0 to 100 block of Wellington Street West.

City Police Service reports a routine Saturday night. There were two people arrested for liquor-related offences and one person picked up for an attempted break & enter to a home on Wellington West. That offence occurred at 7:30 this morning.

MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL OFFENCES A 42-year-old male was picked up yesterday afternoon at 2:30 by City Police. He was apprehended without incident and charged with several sexual offences involving a minor.

ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES LAID Early this morning, at 2:10, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to a west end delivery shop regarding a disturbance.
